eCommerce Merchandise Planner
Job Description :
The Ecommerce Merchandise Planner carries out major assignments for the management and operation for one of the most exciting and fast moving businesses under the Forever 21 company. This person is responsible for the health and development of the ecommerce business by creating well thought-out annual plans utilizing current sales, trend, and any other pertinent information while translating the merchant vision into making these plans viable and profitable which result in significant positive financial impact to the overall organization. He/she compares and evaluates possible courses of action by developing, evaluating, and monitoring unit plans, projections, inventory flow, trends, with a heavy influence of merchant input. The Ecommerce Planner must be able to coordinate all operational factors and relationship in order to execute the overall vision for the division.
  • Develop assortment plans to the class level for the Ecommerce store
  • Develop, evaluate, and monitor unit plans, projections, inventory flow, promotional strategies and seasonal sell-off plans as part of company’s management policies and operating practices to produce maximum volume
  • Develop projections and inventory flow for key items/collections, working closely with Buying
  • Analyze and reflect current trends in performance of strategy based on actual sales performance; revise in-season plans for sales and profitability; control inventory levels
  • Partner with Merchant to develop and propose tactics in response to current business trends, such as:
    • Make recommendations for key financial meetings/decisions in order to maximize sales and inventory productivity
    • Monthly plan review process: develop sales, receipt, and inventory re-forecasts
    • Manage receipts and adjust inventory flow
    • Communicate revisions within the team and cross functionally
  • Forecast monthly and seasonal plans for allocation, OTB Plan and store review
  • Partner with Allocation team to develop and utilize seasonal selling
  • Exhibit initiative to look beyond the everyday business to look for opportunities to maximize sales potential
  • Partner and communicate with Merchandising, Production, Allocation, Marketing, Operations, IT, Distribution, and Logistics
  • Routinely present recommendations and other analysis to senior leadership and executive management related to driving long- and/or short-term business goals (e.g. hindsights, color/pattern selling, etc.)
(Quantitative and Technical)
  • Bachelor degree; finance, operations, retail management, and/or business a plus
  • 3-5 years of experience in: retail merchandise planning, demand forecasting; inventory management, allocation or replenishment; financial planning or financial analysis experience
  • 3-5 years of retail experience in buying or allocation; Merchant or merchandising experience desirable
  • Have a solid PLANNING acumen
  • Strong Comprehensive knowledge of:
    • Retail math
    • Retail sales and inventory flow
    • Retail sales and inventory measures and metrics
    • problem-solving and analytical skills
    • strong aptitude with numbers
    • understanding of forecasting methodology
  • Strong systems and database skills; ability to navigate data through antiquated systems and reporting tools
  • PC proficiency with strong emphasis on Excel

  • Makes decisions with limited information but also able to synthesize large quantities of data to drive business decisions
  • Strong communication and presentation skills: concisely presents complex information/recommendations in terms meaningful to various audiences
  • Builds collaborative partnerships cross-functionally; identifies/influences critical stakeholders 
  • Be able to navigate multiple personalities with multiple needs and requirements.
  • Must be creative and be able to come up with strategies and thought provoking ideas beyond the planning acumen
  • Controlled and Organized
  • CONFIDENT – This person must have the ability to lead a room full of executives and drive results with peers and management. They must also acknowledge flaws and challenge the status quo by coming up with solutions, and if need be, execute them when approved
  • Big picture mentality – This role requires a lot of detailed work, but the ones who succeed can take many steps back and look at the process in whole, being able to spot out how the dominos will fall, and if need be, make necessary adjustments
  • Be able to manage tasks beyond the typical planning role, ie coordinating efforts among different departments, etc
